HOW TO COOK IT?

Here is a classic and versatile recipe for using ground beef:

Beef Ragout

Ingredients:

  • 500g of minced beef
  • 1 onion, finely chopped
  • 2 carrots, finely chopped
  • 2 sticks of celery, finely chopped
  • 2 cloves garlic, finely chopped
  • 400g of peeled tomatoes, crushed
  • 1/2 cup dry red wine
  • 2 tablespoons of tomato paste
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil
  • 1 teaspoon dried oregano
  • 1 teaspoon dried basil
  • Salt and freshly ground black pepper, to taste
  • Grated Parmesan (for serving)
  • Pasta (of your choice)

Method:

  1. In a large pot, heat the olive oil over medium heat. Add the chopped onion, carrots, and celery and cook until the vegetables are tender, about 5 to 7 minutes.
  2. Add the minced garlic and cook for a further 1-2 minutes until fragrant.
  3. Add the ground beef to the pot and cook, breaking up the meat with a wooden spoon, until browned and cooked through.
  4. Pour the red wine into the pan and let it evaporate for a few minutes.
  5. Add the crushed peeled tomatoes, tomato paste, oregano, basil, salt and black pepper. Mix well, reduce the heat and leave to simmer for about 30-40 minutes, stirring occasionally.
  6. In the meantime, cook the pasta in plenty of salted water following the instructions on the package. Drain the pasta al dente and keep it aside.
  7. Taste and adjust salt and pepper to your taste.
